What’s the job like?
The WORD Assistant Instructors rock our world! These incredible 14-16 year olds assist the Instructor for the term programmes and holiday camps. They help the Instructor with group management, demonstrations, trail building, bike maintenance, and passing out snacks. They also attend their usual teen day.
Dates of volunteering:
After School: October-December & February-April
(1-2 days/week, 4.15-6.30 pm)
School holidays: January, April, July, and October
(8.30am-3pm and overnighters)
Locations:
Wellington: Porirua, Makara Peak, Mt Victoria.

To be a WORD Assistant Instructor, you don’t need to be a pro rider, but you do need to be stoked about helping kids enjoy riding just as much as you do.
Prerequisites:
Minimum age 14 years old
Ongoing participation in WORD Programmes (your normal teen day)
Attend the WORD Assistant Instructor Training Day (November)
Current First Aid Certificate (prefered)

Assistant Instructor Training
We’ll teach you what and how to be the best Assistant Instructor in the land! Accepted applicants will be required (really it’s an honour) to join the training day based in the Wellington Region in September/October.
The WORD Assistant Instructor Pathway:
Recruitment- application, interview, referees check, police check, first aid certificate, induction of WORD policies and procedures.
Attend Training day - A day of fun! We teach you all the things you need to know to start your instructing journey!
Assist- Join an experienced Instructor with a group of kiddos on your assisting day!
Participate - participate in WORD on your normal scheduled teen day
Instruct- Eventually, when you’re 17 years old you are invited to apply to be a full Instructor. Applications open in August each year.
