Years 6-8 (10-12 Yo)

WORD Camps are the best part of school holidays! We have a variety of different camps during the holidays. Each camp we will ride, learn and giggle...heaps! Camps are open to kids of all MTB skill abilities. We split into groups, so we can ride with mates of similar radness.

April ‘26 Holiday Programmes available to register March 12th 7pm

Have a look below to see what is on the horizon these coming holidays

Remutaka Recce with the girls!

CBD Drop off 15/16th April

  • At WORD, we are always trying new and exciting ways to deliver the same values and brilliance we believe we offer in all our camps. This summer, we are thrilled to be revisiting a classic and heading over the Remutaka Incline for a night of camping! If you’re new to the outdoors, or have had the bug for some time already, this camp is for all to enjoy! Have a look at this linkfor what is a Wellington classic for mountain bikers.

With a big emphasis on sleeping bags and fruit bursts, this adventure will be jam packed with fun and just the right amount of pedalling. Kids will need to feel comfortable tackling a 18km bike ride (we have all day to do so), starting at the drop off point: end of Incline Road, Kaitoke. Following a 4wd track up the valley, through tunnels, across bridges, and down towards Featherston,  the lucky crew will find themselves at Cross Creek campground for an overnight occasion of festivities in our tents!

Kids will need to share the load- by this we mean our gear for the night all needs to come with us on our bikes and/or backs. We will be catering for dinner, breakfast and the 2nd lunch- as well as the promised smores! WORD has some bikepacking gear available to hire ($20 additional per day), but kids will need to have their own bike, helmet, sleeping bag, and lunch packed for the first day.

    Camp fee: $385

  • Drop off and Pickup Spots:

Day one Pick up and drop off from Amora Hotel in Wellington CBD at 8am (or optional meeting at 9:00 am at Incline Road, Kaitoke, where the Remutaka Rail trail begins). We appreciate this is a bit of a hike for a Monday morning, so the van will be driving out. Day two, we will be returning to the same point (Incline Road, Kaitoke) by 2pm, or the van will arrive to pick the crew up and aim to be back into town by 3pm.

    • Serviced Mountain bike

    • AUS/NZ certified helmet

    • Closed-toe shoes

    • Water

    • Snacks!

    • Rain Jacket

    • Inner tube to fit your tire

    • Sleeping bag, pillow

    • Approx 40l capacity on your bike and/or back

We want to support kids to be independent mountain bikers (and humans), so having them be responsible for their own items by carrying them in a backpack is the first step in doing so. WORD is lucky enough to have some bikepacking equipment to be in a position to share. If you’re young someone will be needing these, simply add the ‘Bikepacking Rental Gear’ at the bottom for $20 a day.

This is a larger list than most of our camps, and we don’t expect everyone to A) know everything you’ll need to bring, and B) have it all. We will be sharing a more comprehensive packing list closer to the date, but for now we have listed the big ticket items.

If you have any questions or concerns with the above list, please get in touch with us. We understand how this list may prove a barrier to some, and will gladly work together to overcome any sticking points.

  • Programme Requirements:

    • Riders need to be comfortable riding off road and on singletrack

    • More importantly, riders should be excited to try new things on their bike.

    • Be prepared for a fun session outside in all types of weather.

    Holiday fee includes:

    • 2 exceptional and savvy WORD instructors

    • Two days and a nights worth of entertainment and adventure

    • A night's accommodation under the stars in our tents

    • An excellent sense of belonging and adventure

    • 3 meals and snacks (you’ll only need to pack your first lunch)

    • 2026 WORD T-shirt* and sticker

    • And let's be frank, a night off cooking for the kids!

*Each year we have a new colour of WORD shirts. January is the start of a ‘New WORD shirt calendar,’ so keep an eye out for the newest colourway! We ask that you only claim 1 per year per kid. Kids will receive their shirt on the first day of camp.

Shuttle Days!

Wellington Central, 13th April

  • A WORD shuttle day is a crowd favourite designed to elevate young riders' skills in a safe and structured environment. For those not familiar with a 'shuttle day', come join us for a day of being supported up the hills in a vehicle, and guided back down on bikes with an instructor. Shuttling offers a unique chance to ride multiple laps in one day that would otherwise take a week of pedalling to achieve! This camp will be led by Peg Leyland.

Making the most of time spent driving around the capital's hills, you can expect a variety of riding from the following parks: Matairangi, Mt Victoria; Waimapihi, Polhill; Mt Crawford, Miramar; and Wrights Hill, Karori.

Please note, based on the 'ambitions and conditions of the day', we will gauge and offer an appropriate combination of these parks.

Cost: $195 for the 1 day camp and includes:

Two qualified, first aid-trained instructors at a 1:4 ratio
