Term 2 2026

Night Riding & Sunday Sessions - All Ages

Term 2 bookings go live Tuesday 31st March at 7pm

To combat those shorter (and wetter) days, WORD excitingly offers Night Riding and Sunday Sessions in term 2. Whilst our biggest programmes, WORD’s summer terms, aren’t back until term 4, we are stoked to be running these great adventures this winter!

We are realistic about the conditions we can expect in the month of May, so please note that both of these programmes are a 4 week long term - shorter than our summer programmes.

Night Riding!

  • To combat those shorter (and wetter) days, WORD excitingly offers night riding in term 2. The concept is as simple as it sounds- riding in the dark! We strap lights to our helmets and brave the conditions for a fun and different adventure on bikes!

We are realistic about the conditions we can expect in the month of May, so please note this is a 4 week long term- shorter than our summer programmes.

    Cost: $180

    Age Groups: 10-12 and 13-17yrs

What does that include? 4 sessions with two excellent, GSMBC LVL 1 qualified instructors, a world famous WORD sticker, and plenty of new friends to be made!

  • We will be meeting on Tuesdays at 4:10pm for a 4:30pm takeoff, and back in cars to rug up by 6:30pm. We love to mix things up to keep the programme exciting. This winter, we will be riding on

Tuesday 5th May - at Mākara Peak, Karori: Muds Cycles Carpark

Tuesday 12th May - at Mākara Peak, Karori: Muds Cycles Carpark

Tuesday 19th May - at Waimapihi, Aro Valley: Bottom of Serendipity, Aro Valley

Tuesday 26th May - at Matairangi, Mt Victoria: Pirie Street Playground

Drop off and Pick up are at the same locations for each evening

  • There is no two ways about it- conditions won’t be rosy. So, to really enjoy these adventures, your kid should be confident riding grade 4 trails, and comfortably get to the top of say Mākara Peak and down- with a couple of snack breaks of course! This is our way of knowing that when we are out there on an exceptional mid-winter southerly kind of a night, we can all keep warm and happy skidding around on mucky trails.

Don’t have lights? WORD does! For an additional $50, you can have your very own set for the progamme. Add these as a seperate booking at checkout.

    Age Groups: 10-12 and 13-17yrs

  • What to Bring

    • Serviced Mountain bike

    • AUS/NZ certified helmet

    • Closed-toe shoes

    • Water

    • Snacks!

    • Rain Jacket

    • Inner tube to fit your tire

A note on nightlights: For those who have some lights at home, we suspect that, like us, its been a few months since you last needed them… Put them on charge, and give them a go to be confident they are good to go for this season. To have an enjoyable time out on the trails, you need to have a light that is at least 1000-lumen, and can be mounted on your helmet.

Don’t have lights? WORD does! For an additional $50, you can have your very own set for the progamme. Add these as a seperate booking at checkout.

We want to support kids to be independent mountain bikers (and humans), so having them be responsible for their own items by carrying them in a backpack is the first step in doing so.

If you have any questions or concerns with the above list, please get in touch with us. We understand how this list may prove a barrier to some, and will gladly work together to overcome any sticking points.Item description
