Leadership team!

Developed in early 2022, The Leadership Team overseas the operations of WORD. We love that this team upholds our values, is financially sustainable, and ensures we are truly a youth focused organisation. They each work 10-20 hours/week on various roles that keep WORD ticking (and growing!) along.

Pete Mitchell

Wanaka Programme Manager! When he’s not Captain Admin he’ll be out instructing or in the hills on a big ole adventure! Pete joined the team in June 2021 to help get WORD Wanaka off the ground… and wow did it grow! He’s the main person behind the lense with our photos and videos too. Claudia Brochu

Meet our newest addition to the Leadership Team! Wellington Programme Manager Claudia spent a year as an instructor before wanting to get more involved in the organisation. She launched herself into the mountain biking scene in 2020 and got totally hooked! For her it’s all about the community, progression and bringing people together through their love for bikes! Dave Wallace

Dave, aka Instructor Whanau Dad. Dave has worked with us as a WORD instructor for 4 years before we roped him into taking on more responsibilities. Our instructor coordinator manages all instructors and assistants, recruiting, allocating them to their sessions, organising training and onboarding. Dave is also a mad keen adventure rider, and can often be seen riding the length of the country, or smashing out his local events! You can contact Dave at: dave@word.org.nz

Ash Peter

This amazing team is overseen by Ash, WORD Founder and CEO. Her job these days is to make WORD better! She develops and leads Instructor training, is pretty handy on the mic with spreading the WORD, looks after the leadership team, and absolutely loves riding bikes with the kiddos. Mat Wright

Our new Operations Manager! Mat Write came to the Leadership team in 2023 with a background as the brand man at Yeti Cycles NZ and the owner of delicious cafes in Wellington. He will be focusing on the Leadership Team and operational capability as well as creating opportunities for passion & excitement to flourish for our team, our participants, and across the community.
